Dr. Stuart Zeng
Dr. Stuart Zeng graduated from Guangzhou Medical College in 1978 where he studied both Western medicine and Traditional Chinese medicine. He completed his rotating internship in 1983 and residency training in medicine in 1987 in Guangzhou, China, and practiced as a staff physician in the Department of Medicine at the People’s First Municipal Hospital of Guangzhou.
At the end of 1987, Dr. Zeng was selected by the Chinese Government to go to the Vancouver General Hospital for one year of study and mentoring with Dr. Frank Anderson, in Gastroenterology, as part of his special training program. During this time, Dr. Zeng saw patients daily with Dr. Anderson in his clinical practice and also participated in all clinical and pathological rounds in Gastroenterology, including those at the BC Cancer Agency.
In 1991, Dr. Zeng received his current appointment from the University of British Columbia to work as a Research Associate with Dr. Frank Anderson in the Division of Gastroenterology. Dr. Zeng has been involved with many clinical research projects and clinical trials conducted by Dr. Anderson at Vancouver General Hospital. He has written and co-authored a number of medical publications – primarily on inflammatory bowel disease and chronic viral hepatitis – for publication in international, Canadian, and BC medical journals. During this time he has continued to participate in most clinical activities in the Division of Gastroenterology at the Vancouver General Hospital. Also, due to the growing popularity of Chinese medicine in BC, Dr. Zeng has been a Chinese medicine consultant to Dr. Anderson and his patients since 1991.
Dr. Zeng is a licensed practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine in British Columbia and also runs a Chinese medical clinic in Surrey, BC. Dr. Zeng treats many diseases in which Chinese medicine may be beneficial. However, he has a special interest in chronic liver diseases and their related illnesses, and other digestive disorders. He treats chronic viral hepatitis and its complications and some chronic gastrointestinal problems using Chinese herbs and/or acupuncture.
Dr. Zeng has been active in the Chinese medical community in BC since his arrival in Vancouver. He has been a member of the United Acupuncturists Association of British Columbia since 1992. He was a member of the Canadian Acupuncturists and TCM Alliance of BC from 1996-2000 and is currently a member of the Canadian Sino-Medical Association and the Association of Canadian Chinese Professionals.
